Obituary: Dimitrij Mancevič, the Belarus coach who steered Slovenia's top swimming talent for many years, has passed away after a long illness. He was 58. Mancevič served a mentor to Peter Mankoč, the Slovenian sprinter who claimed 40 medals for his country in international waters, and Dimitry Balandin, who became Kazakhstan's first Olympic swim champion when he claimed the 200m breaststroke crown at Rio 2016

The 100m freestyle pace among the best women sprinters in the world this new year just took a giant leap forward: in 52.37, Cate Campbell shattered her own all-comers NSW record on the first day at state titles in Sydney. The swim marked her fourth-swiftest ever win a career ranking topped by 27 sub-53 efforts. Earlier in the session, Campbell clocked 25.68 to take down the NSW record in the 50m butterfly that had stood to 100m Olympic champion of 2008, Libby Lenton (Trickett), at 26.02 since the last season of shiny suits in 2009.
