A PERTH grandmother who has become the oldest woman to swim the English Channel says thinking of the special people in her life kept her going during the crossing.

The World Open Water Age Group Championships will happen for the first time in Wellington, New Zealand over a 2.5km distance. Be part of this amazing first time event and you could see yourself crowned World Open Water Champion in your age group. Preceding the two World events will be a fun 1.5km Recreational Swim catering for the social swimmer. Entries for these events are open to all swimmers.

Wellington long-distance swimmer Barrie Devenport, the first man to swim Cook Strait, has died in Australia, aged 75.

Swedish swimmer Therese Alshammar disqualified over suit law

Swedish swimmer Therese Alshammar has been disqualified for swimming in two suits at the Australian Swimming Championships.
She has also been stripped of the world record she set in this morning's heats of the 50 metres butterfly.
Australian coach Alan Thompson says Alshammar can only wear one suit in competition under a new Swimming Australia by-law.
Swimming Australia says Alshammar has appealed against the decision.

ONE of two fishermen lost at sea after their fishing trawler sank off the coast of Byron Bay in northern NSW has been found alive.A spokeswoman for the Maritime Safety Authority said the man was found floating about 15km north-east of Ballina, on the NSW north coast, at 8.15am (AEDT) today.
