Forest Grove's Barber tackles North Channel swim

FGSD speech therapist Rijl Barber will attempt to swim the North Channel at the end of June.

The North Channel is the strait between the northeastern part of Northern Ireland and the southwestern portion of Scotland. It connects the Irish Sea with the Atlantic Ocean and has a rich maritime history ranging from the Revolutionary War to the Princess Victoria ferry disaster of 1953.

Originally scheduled for early April, Alex Kostich had an unexpected logistical delay in getting to Pitcairn Island in the middle Pacific Ocean. He had to postpone his planned circumnavigation swimaround Pitcairn.

But the attempt was rescheduled and one of the world's fastest veterans is right back on schedule.
