'Paddling Professor' to swim across Kincaid Lake for 90th birthday

In celebration of his 90th birthday, Harry Briggs will swim two miles across Kincaid Lake to Tunk's Cypress Inn.

There, his friends have planned a birthday celebration for him that will also serve as a scholarship fundraiser to benefit Northwestern State University nursing and radiologic sciences students at NSU's Cenla Center in Alexandria.

Swimmers compete in 24-mile marathon swim from St. Pete to Tampa

Tampa, Florida - From sunrise to sunset, 20 swimmers spent nine plus hours in the open waters of Tampa Bay as part of this year's 24 Mile Marathon Swim.

The annual event is one of the longest sanctioned open water swims in the world and draws some of the best swimmers from around the world to compete.

"This one has become recognized as one of the 30 majors in open water swimming worldwide," said race director Ron Collins, who founded this race in 1998.

Evan Morrison, 31, of Chicago finished first Saturday afternoon in eight hours and 59 minutes, followed by Tom Sherry from Ashville, North Carolina.

The 2013 European Masters Championship has been assigned to the Royal Dutch Swimming Federation (KNZB)

Today the European Swimming Federation (LEN) announced that the organization of the 2013 European Masters Championship has been assigned to the Royal Dutch Swimming Federation (KNZB).
Eindhoven will be the hometown for the event consisting of Swimming, Diving, Synchronized Swimming and Openwater Swimming. In the 2013 KNZB celebrates its 125th anniversary and will focus this anniversary around this tournament.
