2018 Local Spanish National Open Water Champions

This Sunday saw the final of the official Spanish Swimming Federation Open Water Circuit 2018. This year’s open water circuit included 14 different races in either lakes, rivers or the sea over distances between 3km and 10km at various locations across the whole of Spain. Age classifications ranged between 16 and over 70 years of age.

Spanish athlete David Meca completes Strait of Gibraltar swim attempt

A WORLD champion swimmer has battled big waves and strong winds to swim the Straits of Gibraltar.

Catalan David Meca, of Sabadell, took 3 hours and 39 minutes to complete the tough 14.3 km (8.9 mile) challenge, which saw him swim from Tarifa to Morocco’s Point Cires earlier today despite a strong south westerly wind.

We must have made a strange sight: 12 wetsuited swimmers suddenly landing on a nudist beach. I often feel overdressed in a wetsuit, but this was ridiculous. But rather than disrobe and get into the swing of things, we averted our eyes, opened our towfloats and rehydrated with some water, before swimming off again on our exploration of the coastline.
