Microbes pose no threat to winter swimmers

Despite microbe resilience, hardy swimmers eager to plunge into icy winter waters need not fear infection, says public health watchdog THL.

The Finnish tradition of ice swimming poses very little risk of microbial infection to swimmers, the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) has announced.

Finding yourself in the rivers, lakes and ponds of England

Freshwater swimming as exploration and therapy.
In the middle of the deepest lake in England I nearly lost my nerve. Wast Water is nestled in the western corner of the Lake District, an area once beloved by Romantic poets. A winding road cuts along one bank; on the other looms Scafell Pike, the tallest mountain in England. The water glints metallic, reflecting the grey, overcast sky.

On februari 2nd, 2019, the first edition of the Bodegraven Ice Swim will be held.
Bodegraven Ice Swim is an ice swim race. Ice swimming is swimming in water under 5 degrees Celsius, without wetsuit.
There is a choice of distances, 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1000 meters.

Brrrr-illiant! Wild Swimmer does country proud in sub-zero Antarctic race

A Polish wild swimmer has become the first Pole in history to swim 1km in the freezing cold waters of the Antarctica in less than 15 minutes.

Leszek Naziemiec outpowered nine others to take fifth place in just 14 minutes, 42 seconds at the first Antarctic Ice Swimming race held in Port Lockroy, the north-western point of the continent.
